About Fest:

Pearl, is the annual cultural festival of BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus. The name comes from the popularity of Hyderabadi Pearl. The 9th edition of this fest, themed Wanderlust and decorated with the hashtag #MilesToGo, will take place from 23rd to 25th of March 2018.

If you haven’t attended a college fest earlier, especially the ones that engineers organize, then this is the best place for your expectations to be “more than satisfied”.

The Proshows are Lit
Proshows, as they’re called, are performances by professionals - they can be anything from a stand-up comedy show by Ashish Shakya, to a performance by Aron Chupa, the Swedish rapper and DJ who shot to fame with his song “I’m an Albatraoz”, which had almost ~800 million+ views on YouTube. The contemporary Indian folk band Raghu Dixit Project, and Amit Trivedi, the Bollywood singer, are also set to perform at Pearl. With energizing DJs, the fast beats of Hindi songs and the witty jokes by stand-up comedians, along with many more performances by music enthusiasts, and accompanying music and dance competitions, Pearl is sure to be a spectacle to witness!

For a Cause
A fest for a cause? Nope, we aren’t kidding. This Pearl, we are all up for spreading equality and love. Gauri Sawant, a woman who stood alone to fight a world prejudiced against transgenders, will be sharing her experiences and the little steps she took to cover miles unexplored before. A fundraiser has been set up for her cause of giving a home to children of sex workers with a target of raising Rs. 1,00,000. In an era of celebrity baby obsessed journalists, Alok Dixit is one of the few who strives to make a change. Focusing on acid attack victims, right to free expression and internet censorship, he will be talking about how journalism can make the world a better place. Hans Dalal, a man who fought and beat the social stigma surrounding cerebral palsy, is now waging another war - a war to protect the voiceless. Hans does his bit in protecting tigers apart from launching PROWL, an NGO dedicated to the Preservation of Wildlife Landscapes. He’ll be one of the speakers as well.

Events and More
You might be a passionate dancer. Or a movie buff. Or maybe a quizzing enthusiast. Whatever you are, whatever your interest may be, you will almost certainly find a competition or an event that is in your taste. From events like Time Machine, where you’ll explore alternate histories, to Terpsichore, the group dance competition, Pearl has it all. With a range of competitions, in design, literature, debating, dance, and music, you’re sure to have a blast in the field you’re passionate about. The huge cash prizes for the winners of events, doesn’t hurt either. For serious gamers, Pearl has something to offer - Fraglore, the mini-fest inside Pearl will host competitions for Counterstrike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) and Dota. Also, this Pearl, for the first time in the history of fests in India, YouTube Conclave will be hosted, with famous Indian YouTubers Larissa DSA, Mostly Sane, Rishhsome, Sejal Kumar, and Girliyapa coming to interact with their fans on the 24th of March.

This Pearl, we aren’t just offering entertainment. We’re proposing an opportunity. An opportunity to change the world - a little at a time. This is what we mean by #MilesToGo. It isn’t about just visiting new places -  it’s about transforming them and working towards the perfection humanity cherishes.
